Etowah County is a county in the state of Alabama. Its county seat is Gadsden. Gadsden is a Cherokee word meaning "edible tree". Adjoinig counties are: DeKalb County - to the north, Cherokee County - to the east, Calhoun County - to the southeast, St. Clair County - to the southwest, Blount County - to the west, and Marshall County - to the northwest.
